Junior School Caregiver - School support and after school care 

St Georgeʼs British International School is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Caregiver to join our highly motivated and experienced student support team commencing in September 2026 on a full-time basis (37.5 hours). The successful candidate will be based at our City Centre Junior School campus in Rome. Working hours are Monday to Friday, 10.30am to 6.00pm (including lunch break), term time only.

Duties and Responsibilities

 Mentor and provide support to students across the school as directed by the Head of School.

Support classroom teachers with the preparation of materials

Support children during specialist lessons.

Be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people with whom s/he comes into contact.

After school Supervision and Care:

Maintain the safety, welfare and good conduct of the pupils in the after-school club

Undertake the daily supervision of the children, developing and maintaining high standards to ensure the welfare and safety of children at all times.

Oversee the daily activities, snacks, and ensure all resources are tidied away and the environment left in a good condition.

Ensure pupils have access to appropriate activities to support their physical, emotional, social and intellectual development, considering their cultural and linguistic needs.

Take a key role in suitably equipping the after-school club in order to provide a stimulating environment for the pupil.

Provide high-quality care for the children and comply with school policies, procedures and guidelines.

Take a daily register of attendance and submit weekly attendance records to the school secretary for accounts.

Report back to the appropriate member of staff using the school's agreed referral procedures on the behaviour of pupils during the after-school club, or any other issues that may be relevant.

Pastoral

Demonstrate professional curiosity in relation to each student’s wellbeing and welfare, and foster the personal and social developments of each student in their care

Actively promote the social, moral and cultural ethos of the school community

Create an atmosphere of support by being aware of, and fully compliant with, all of the school’s pastoral policies

Be familiar with all the school’s policies on Health and Safety and be proactive in ensuring the safety of all members of the school community at all times

Promote exemplary behaviour and a responsible attitude amongst pupils

Be aware of and act upon all policies regarding the safeguarding of children

Professional

Contribute to the safe supervision of children at break and lunch times

Promote pride in the school among the pupil body through high standards of dress, behaviour and commitment

Ensure that all communication is acted upon appropriately and in a timely manner

Attend Parents’ Evenings, Assemblies and other school events after school during term time as the Head of School/Principal may, from time to time, require

Be responsible for all school resources, particularly those in your care, reporting damage or loss to the appropriate authority within the school

Contribute to the virtual learning environment, the website, social media and publications in support of your work

Contribute to the school’s Self Evaluation and Strategic Plan

Foster a close partnership with parents, initiating contact in appropriate circumstances and ensuring that there is a record of this

Carry out any reasonable professional request made by the Principal or Head of Junior School
